Free Unlocking the Bootloader Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
Warning: Unlocking the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc's bootloader will void the warranty.
- You will need fastbooton the computer to unlock the bootloader of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. Follow the Android SDK guide, to get the fastbootshell on the computer.
- On the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, open the Phone application & enter *#06#. This present the IMEI of the device; write it down, it will be needed later.
- Power off the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.
- Press & hold the Menu button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to the computer.
- On the computer, open terminal and run the following command: fastboot -i 0x0fce getvar version NOTE: This step is to ensure the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is connected properly & the drivers setup properly. If you get , something is not setup properly.
- If everything is looking good, joun us Once on this page do the
- following:
- Click the red Continue button at the bottom of the page.
- You will be presented with a "Are you really sure?" prompt. Read the prompt & if you agree, click "Yes, I sure".
- You will now be presented with a "Legal terms" prompt. Read the prompt & if you agree, check off the list & click "I accept".
- On the next prompt, enter in the first 14 digits of IMEI of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (dropping the last digit), your name & your email address.
- You will be given an unlock code, write it down.
- On the computer, open terminal and run the following command: fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY NOTE: In this command, replace KEY with the unlock code, that was provided earlier.
- The bootloader is now unlocked on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. Continue to the next section.
Flashing CyanogenMod
- Download the latest version of CyanogenMod. Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
- Extract the boot.img from the CyanogenMod update.zip and copy the it to the same folder as fastboot (the /tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
- Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card. Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
- Disconnect the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc from the computer and power it off.
- Press & hold the Menu button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to the computer.
- On the computer, open terminal and run the following command: fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img fastboot -i 0xfce reboot
- While the device is reboot press the Volume Rockers a few times to boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
- Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side Volume Rocker to move around, & the Power button to select. Optional: Select backup and restore to create a backup of current installation on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.
- Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
- Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
- Select Install zip from sdcard.
- Select Choose zip from sdcard.
- Select the CyanogenMod update.zip. Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 7 - 9 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
- Once the installation has finished, select +++++Go Back+++++ to get back to the main menu, and select the Reboot system now option. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc should now boot into CyanogenMod
